Location: Fairfield, Iowa
One-Line Bio: Paul is a lover of all things wild and true. He started his
blog Dirt Orcas ( dirtorcas.com) because of his passion for nature, wildlife,
camping, and overland travel. Dirt Orcas provides inspiring interviews,
product reviews, guided trips, and field advice.
Instagram: When you’re building a
brand, you‘ve got to keep your fans
up to speed on what you are do-
ing. I love Instagram because it lets
me share photos and connect with fellow
iBooks: I love to listen to audio
books while I ride my motorcycle.
I will often try to match the book
with the area I am travelling through
so that there’s a relationship between the
story I am listening to and my own journey.
SNL: This app is an amazing re-
source for smiles. I love how it can
brighten my mood at the touch of
a button. Its library literally includes
every sketch from the past 40 years.
Dark Sky Weather: Dark Sky sends
live updates to my phone when bad
weather is inbound. This lets me
make appropriate changes to my
route or throw on a few extra layers of cloth-
ing if I need them.
Fireplace 3D: The campfire is a
time-honored tradition of campers
everywhere. However, it’s, 2016 and
you will likely run into fire restric-
tions all over the country, especially
the West. This app is a little gimmicky but
still fun to have around camp if you can't
have the real thing.
MotionX-GPS: This is the main
GPS tool I use to plan trips. It is the
best one for getting off the beaten
path. It allows you to load tracks from friends
and design routes on byways and trails that
you won’t find on Apple Maps or Google
Google Maps: When you need to
get somewhere in a hurry, this is
your app. It may not have the keys
to a great off-road adventure ride,
but it will keep you away from traffic jams and
construction zones. Plus the voice activation
is nice if you’re wearing motorcycle gloves.
Find My Friends: When you’re adventure motorcycling with a group,
you can easily take a wrong turn. I
like to have everybody I’m traveling
with turn this on so we can keep track of
